Ford's 2025 Mustang GTD Sets New Performance Benchmark with 815 HP

Ford's 2025 Mustang GTD Sets New Performance Benchmark with 815 HP

Ford has revealed the final performance specifications for the 2025 Mustang GTD, confirming its status as the most powerful street-legal Mustang ever produced. The new model boasts an impressive 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque, and a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h), setting a new benchmark in the Mustang lineup.

The Mustang GTD showcases advanced active aerodynamics designed to enhance its performance capabilities. A key feature is the Drag Reduction System, which optimizes airflow and downforce to improve handling and speed. The vehicle also incorporates carbon-ceramic brakes and an inboard-rear suspension with semi-active dampers, further supporting its high-performance credentials.

Ford has set an ambitious goal for the Mustang GTD to complete a sub-seven-minute lap of the Nürburgring, demonstrating the company's confidence in the vehicle's engineering prowess. Greg Goodall, Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer, emphasized the team's focus on achieving world-class performance while maintaining the essence of the Mustang brand.

Powertrain and Technology Innovations

At the heart of the Mustang GTD lies a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, which Ford claims produces more horsepower per litre than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. This powerplant introduces several innovations, including Mustang's first-ever dry-sump oil system. This feature enhances lubrication during demanding driving scenarios and allows for a slightly higher maximum engine speed of 7,650 rpm.

The engine's performance is further augmented by revised intake and exhaust systems, a standard titanium exhaust, and a smaller supercharger pulley. These enhancements contribute to the Mustang GTD's impressive power output and overall performance capabilities.

The development of the Mustang GTD involved close collaboration between engineers, designers, and experienced drivers. This collaborative approach has resulted in a unique blend of technology, power, and aerodynamics that Ford believes will set a new standard in the high-performance vehicle segment.

Goodall expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, "We've been laser focused since day 1 to make Mustang GTD the first-ever supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang."

The Mustang GTD represents Ford's effort to create a supercar that retains the iconic Mustang identity while pushing the boundaries of performance. The project began with a clear focus on achieving specific performance benchmarks, particularly the sub-seven-minute Nürburgring lap time.

As everyone awaits the results of the Mustang GTD's performance testing, particularly its Nürburgring lap time, the vehicle is set to impact the market perception of high-performance cars significantly.
