Ford BlueCruise 1.4: Smoother, Smarter, and More Natural

Ford BlueCruise 1.4: Smoother, Smarter, and More Natural

Ford's latest advancement in hands-free highway driving technology, BlueCruise 1.4, introduces significant improvements to enhance the driving experience. This new version offers a more natural feel and increased hands-free engagement time, building upon Ford's established driver assistance features.

Enhancements in Driving Experience

BlueCruise 1.4 provides a more natural driving feel through several key improvements. The system now features a new motion controller that enhances in-lane stability. This controller manages the vehicle's steering, reducing side-to-side movement within the lane. As a result, drivers experience a smoother, more stable ride while using the hands-free feature.

Another notable enhancement is the automatic speed adjustment in curves. The system now smoothly adjusts the vehicle's speed when approaching and navigating curves on the highway. This feature allows drivers to maintain hands-free engagement for longer periods, even in situations where previous versions might have disengaged. The result is a more continuous and comfortable driving experience.

Improved Performance in Diverse Conditions

One of the most significant advancements in BlueCruise 1.4 is its ability to maintain engagement during challenging weather conditions and sun glare. The system now performs better in situations such as rain or direct sunlight, which previously might have caused disengagement. This improvement allows drivers to stay hands-free for substantially longer periods.

Ford's internal testing has shown that BlueCruise 1.4 enables customers to remain engaged in hands-free mode an average of at least eight times longer compared to BlueCruise 1.0. This extended engagement time translates to a more relaxed and convenient driving experience, especially for those with long daily commutes.

For example, consider a driver using BlueCruise 1.4 in their Ford F-150 during their daily highway commute. As they approach a sharp curve, instead of disengaging and requiring manual control, the system now automatically adjusts the truck's speed to navigate the curve safely while remaining in hands-free mode. This seamless adjustment allows for a more continuous and less interrupted journey.

Building on Established Features

BlueCruise 1.4 incorporates and enhances features introduced in previous versions. Lane Change Assist, which allows drivers to change lanes hands-free by activating the turn signal, remains a key feature. Additionally, In-Lane Repositioning continues to provide extra space by subtly shifting away from vehicles in adjacent lanes.

These established features, combined with the new enhancements in BlueCruise 1.4, create a more comprehensive and refined hands-free driving experience. The cumulative improvements result in a system that adapts more naturally to various driving scenarios, reducing the need for driver intervention and increasing overall comfort and convenience.

Availability and Future Updates

BlueCruise 1.4 will be available on select BlueCruise-equipped 2025 Ford and Lincoln vehicles directly from the factory. The 2025 Ford F-150 and 2025 Lincoln Navigator are among the first models to feature this latest version. Ford plans to expand availability to additional vehicle lines in the future.

Ford's approach to delivering software updates across various vehicle lines is methodical and tailored. Each vehicle line and model year has a specific BlueCruise software package, and updates require modifications to multiple system modules and in-vehicle screens. This process ensures that each vehicle receives the most suitable version of the software.

The company remains committed to improving BlueCruise based on customer feedback and data. With 492,000 BlueCruise-equipped vehicles on the road globally and over 390 million hands-free highway kilometres driven in North America, Ford continues to gather valuable insights to refine and enhance the system.
